FOX Sports Sacramento’s Matt Barrows reported Thursday that the Oakland Raiders are close to making a return visit to the Bay Area for a game next season.
The Raiders have not yet announced a date for the visit.
Barrows said that there has been a deal in place to have a team meet with Oakland to discuss a possible reunion, but that negotiations have stalled because of a dispute over the ownership of the Raiders’ franchise tag.
The team was scheduled to play in California on Sept. 5, but has since been forced to pull out of that game.
The Raiders have had several visits since then, but none have taken place.
The league is considering changing the rules to allow teams to come to the state for games, but the issue is currently a political football issue, as the NFLPA has threatened to walk away if the team doesn’t agree to the change.
Barrows said Thursday that he did not know the Raiders planned to come back to Oakland, but did not believe it was a stretch to believe that they would return.
The news comes just two weeks after the Raiders lost to the Raiders in a 24-20 loss.
